Austin Crawfish Boil Rental

You don’t have to be an expert or spend a lot of money.  Rent all the stuff you need to have a crawfish boil for $60: Pot, Strainer, Burner, 6 ft Table, and a Large Ice Chest

 How to Cook Crawfish

This is for one sack of crawfish (30lbs), which would feed 7-10 people.

  1. Clean crawfish with fresh water. Pour a sack of crawfish into a large cooler. Rinse and drain until water runs clear (5-7 times)
  2. Fill the boiling pot half way with water. Bring to boil.
  3. Add 10-20 small red potatoes in the strainer and put in the boiling water.
  4. After potatoes have been boiling for about 10 minutes, add 5-10 half ears of corn, 8 small onions, 4 garlic heads separated, 1-2 pound of your choice of sausage, 2-3 sliced fresh jalapeños.
  5. Pull the strainer out and put the vegetables in the cooler with a layer of “Slap Ya Mama” or your favorite seasoning and close the cooler.
  6. Put the strainer back into the boiling water and add the crawfish with 2 sticks of butter and “Slap Ya Mama” or other seasoning (the more the spicer – look at package for guidance). Bring the water back to a boil and boil for about 1 minute then kill the fire.
  7. Add a sack of ice to the water and let the crawfish soak for 5 minutes.
  8. Pull the strainer out of the water and pour a layer of crawfish in the cooler with the veggies. Shake more seasoning on the crawfish, pour another layer of crawfish and another layer of seasoning. Repeat until all crawfish are in the cooler.
  9. Pick up cooler and shake to mix all the goodness. Close cooler and let soak for 15-20 min.
  10. Eat up!
  11. If you have more sacks, just do it again! The fun is in the cooking. Just remember you already have seasoning in the pot so subsequent batches will be spicier.

Other Tips

For easy clean-up, get some cardboard box trays (the kind that hold soft drinks). Convenience stores will usually give them to you for free. You can also order them here.

If you’ve never eaten crawfish, don’t worry, you don’t have to suck the heads. You can peel them just like shrimp. Read more here
